What is Medicare?

Medicare is the federal government program that provides health care coverage if you are 65 or older, under 65 and receive Social Security Disability already or under 65 and have End-Stage Renal Disease.

As you approach Medicare age, you will undoubtedly start receiving more mail and phone calls than you care to. With the massive amount of paperwork, you receive, it often seems meant to confuse and complicate the matter.

We are here to help during this transition, if you feel overwhelmed at any point, pick up the phone and call us.

As you leave an employer’s coverage you will want to make sure that you are enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. In most cases, when you turn 65, you will automatically be enrolled in Part A and will only need to worry about the Medicare Part B coverage.

If you are already taking Social Security Distributions, you will be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part B and don’t have to worry about it. If you are not taking Social Security distributions, then we will need to apply for those benefits.

Part A covers 80% of inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.

Part B covers 80% of certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.

Part D is your prescription drug coverage. This Part of Medicare helps pay for the prescriptions you will fill throughout the year. It is for both medications you take currently and will possibly take in the future.
